Friday August 1st Arrive at the campground with your car pool between 2PM-10PM. We will get mandatory car pools together for everyone as we are only allowed 20 cars at our campsite! The drive from Denver is about 4 hours 25 mins without traffic. We highly recommend taking a half day at work and getting to camp before dark for the best experience. For anyone that gets there early, Excursion option 1: take the sand 4x4 road on an adventure. We will plan on doing a sunset dune walk and some stargazing Friday night. Then have a camp fire back at camp.
Saturday August 2nd We will be serving breakfast burritos/sandwiches, sausage, and coffee from 7:15 AM - 8:45 AM for all those that purchased the Saturday breakfast/Lunch/Dinner option. After breakfast 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM we will all head into the sand dunes to lay in the sun, sand board, group picture, hike the high dune, and potentially play some sand volleyball. We will serve lunch (Build Your Own Sandwich Bar & Chips/snacks) from 11:30 AM - 12:45 PM. After lunch we can all car pool to Zapata Falls about a 20 minute drive down the road to cool off and get in the water. Then late afternoon will be followed by various games and maybe a mini beer Olympics. Dinner will be served from 5:15 PM - 7:00 PM. Spaghetti Meat & Meatless options w/ Green Beans. We will plan on doing a silent disco in the dunes Saturday night (weather permitting) After dinner we can have some bon fires, smores hangout at the campground.
Sunday August 3rd There is no plan. We can leisurely wake up and clean up the sites. We all have to be gone by 11:00 AM check out.
Communication - I will send out details in a mass email a month ahead of time. Double check your spam folder if you haven't received one. I will add a link to put everyone in a group chat so we can all communicate and coordinate rides.
Camping Gear If you don't have a tent/gear, don't fret. We should be able to find you a tent to share! We will have to share tents anyways as we cant fit 60 single tents on these group sites.
Parking - We will have 20 parking spots, so there will be mandatory car pools.
Restroom - Flushable Toilets and sinks with running water
Pets are welcome in the campground, however, pets must not be left unattended. Please keep pets leashed and under control at all times, and clean up after them.
Tents only- RVs, pop-ups, and trailers do not fit and are not permitted in the group tent camping sites.
Please do not bring firewood from outside the San Luis Valley. Help protect our public lands by buying local firewood in or near your destination campground. Firewood can spread insect pests and diseases that kill native trees.
Black bears are potential visitors in the campground area. Safeguard yourselves and the bears by storing all food and aromatic items in the bearproof lockers or in your cars. Try to minimize food odors in your site. Do not leave food, coolers, or trash in unattended sites.
