14er Camping Trip (Mt. Shavano), August 15th-17th
We are excited to announce our first time camping for a 14er at Angel of Shavano Campground near Monarch Mountain. We will have 70 slots for the weekend. Here is the itinerary for the weekend:
There are two ticket options you can choose from when booking. Camping weekend ticket only is $34.99 or Camping weekend + 2 meals $54.99. Friday Night Meal (Burgers/Hot Dogs) and Saturday Night Meal (Spaghetti and a Vegetable) $59.99
Friday August 15th Arrive at the campground with your car pool between 2PM-10PM. We will get mandatory car pools together for everyone as we are only allowed 25 cars at our campsite! The drive from Denver is about 2 hours 50 mins without traffic. We highly recommend getting to camp before dark for the best experience and to get to bed for our big hike in the morning. We will plan on doing a camp fire that night until 10PM (Fire will be put out at 10pm so everyone can get to sleep). We will grill some burgers/hot dogs and salad for everyone that bought a food ticket between 5:30 PM-7:30 PM.
Saturday August 16th We will do a start time of 4:45 AM, we can hop on the Colorado trail right across the street. Approx 14 miles roundtrip from our campsite. Make sure to bring plenty of snacks/electrolytes/water for the morning/lunch on the trail. We will serve dinner (Spaghetti with meat sauce and green beans) from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM. After dinner we can have some bon fires and hangout at the campground. I'm sure all the hikers will be pretty tired.
Sunday August 17th There is no plan. We can leisurely wake up and clean up the sites. We all have to be gone by 12:00 PM check out.
Communication - I will send out details in a mass email a month ahead of time. Double check your spam folder if you haven't received one. I will add a link to put everyone in a group chat so we can all communicate and coordinate rides.
Camping Gear If you don't have a tent/gear, don't fret. We should be able to find you a tent to share!
Restroom Pit Toilets
Pets are welcome in the campground, however, pets must not be left unattended. Please keep pets leashed and under control at all times, and clean up after them.
Please do not bring firewood from outside the San Luis Valley. Help protect our public lands by buying local firewood in or near your destination campground. Firewood can spread insect pests and diseases that kill native trees.
Black bears are potential visitors in the campground area. Safeguard yourselves and the bears by storing all food and aromatic items in the bearproof lockers or in your cars. Try to minimize food odors in your site. Do not leave food, coolers, or trash in unattended sites.
